    GET the dates into your diary - our 2019 Sandal Scarecrow Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29. This hugely popular annual festival is the biggest event in the Sandal calendar. Get thinking about your entry and help us make this year's celebration the best ever.

  • Murder probe continues

    On the tenth anniversary in November of a nighttime arson attack which led to the death of 81-year-old Sandal resident Lea Brooke, police, supported by a heartfelt plea from Leah's family, renewed their appeal for information. Widow Lea was killed when someone poured white spirit through her letterbox and set it alight. If you have any informtion contact the police or use CrimeStoppers.

  • BEM for services to tennis

    SCA member Peter Wilkes, 72,  was awarded. the British Empire Medal for services to tennis in the New Year's honours list, .  He was nominated by the Yorkshire Lawn Tennis Association in recognition of the 48 years he has dedicated to the organisation. Peter, now aged 72, said he was 'thrilled' to receive the award:: "Tennis has been my lifelong passion and I have enjoyed every minute that I've spent supporting British tennis."

  • Maja's mascot was the best

    We had a massive 130 entries in our competition to design a mascot for the 2018 Sandal Scarecrow Festival. The eventual winner was 11-year-old Maja Kral whose design was used to create an actual scarecrow. Her prizes also included a cake made to her design by Fortythree Coffee Shop.
