Died 9 October 2008, aged 77: David Littlewood wasn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty when it came to charity work, even after he retired. This former electrical contractor who had his own business in Leeds Road, Outwood, lived in Martin Grove, Sandal, with his wife Betty. He was deeply involved in community work, even single-handedly rewiring Chantry Chapel. He was a former chairman of Sandal Charities and was a churchwarden at St Helen’s for 19 years. Until shortly before his death he was chairman of the Wakefield West Riding Operatic Society. He had been president of Wakefield Rotary Club in 1983. Following a funeral service at St Helen’s, David was cremated, still wearing his Rotary badge and one of his trademark bow ties. In a report of his death, the Wakefield Express paid tribute to his work for charity.
