BAXTER: George A. 'Mick'
Died 25 July 2012, aged 90: The flag flew at half mast for a week at Wakefield Golf Club at Sandal following the death of George Aubrey 'Mick' Baxter at the Inwood Residential Home, Horbury. Well respected in the Sandal community, he spent his working life in the mining industry – including time in India – after qualifying at Sheffield University. He became a senior mining inspector, playing a major role in the inquiry into the Lofthouse mining disaster. He was equally well known for his sporting prowess on the golf course at Sandal, the snooker table and at Calder Grove Cricket Club. The funeral was at Wakefield Crematorium on August 7 when the mourners were joined by the captain and secretary of the golf club.
