BROADBENT: Dr Clarence Steele
Died 12 June 1978: Known to everyone as ‘Bunny’, Dr Clarence Broadbent, MA, BM, Ch Oxon, MRCS, LRCP, of Beechfield, Sandal, was born in 1900. He worked at Leeds Infirmary where he was an ophthalmic and aural house surgeon. He then became a ship’s doctor with the Blue Funnel Line to China and finally spent the rest of his working life at the Almshouse Lane Surgery. He was also an honorary consultant surgeon at Clayton Hospital, Wakefield. He married Rohais, a daughter of A.J. Spilsbury, headmaster of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, and became captain of Wakefield Golf Club in 1963.
