Died Friday, 21 June 2013, aged 89: Mary Slater, daughter of Fred Iveson, founder of Sandal Rugby Club, died in Pinderfields Hospital. He was runner-up in the British Amateur Golf Championship, winner of the Brabazon Trophy and a leading player for Yorkshire and England in the 1950s and 1960s. A director of the engineering firm of Slater & Crabtree, he died in 1988, aged 69. One of their sons, Julian, played rugby union for Sandal Colts before playing for Huddersfield and becoming captain of Morley 1st XV.
