Died on 14 January 2014: The flag flew at half-mast at Wakefield Golf Club as a mark of respect for Melvin Longley, of Finch Avenue, Sandal, a much loved, long-term member. He had a great reputation on the course although he was often told: "You are not as good as young Tim"- his son who is now a professional working in Germany. Melvin's wife Janet and his daughter Suzanne would tease him about this, jokes he always took in good part. The son of league cricketer Frank Longley, he worked as a structural engineer and became a director of Sydney Raines, a famous Wakefield engineering company. After the firm closed, he set up his own business with Peter, his friend and colleague of many years. His funeral was at Wakefield Crematorium on Friday January 31.
