Died 4 September 2014, aged 73: There was a service of thanksgiving at Wakefield Cathedral on Tuesday, 23 September 2014, in memory of Richard Haigh, of Manygates Lane, Sandal, who died at Wakefield Hospice. He was chairman of the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir from some 15 years and was the former sales director of Huddersfield-based oil company Batoyle.
He sang with the cathedral choir for 40 years and he was involved with Wakefield Hockey Club, first as goalkeeper and later as a club official. He also became chairman of Yorkshire County Hockey Association. He married Chris in 1963. She said: "Richard was a born organiser and a natural leader... He was very proactive in getting composers to supply the (Yorkshire Philharmonic) Choir with new works." One of them, Will Todd, sent a piece for his funeral.
