Died 10 January 2015, aged 90: Sandal Bowling Club stalwart Marjorie Thresh, a great grandmother who celebrated her 90th birthday in 2014, died at Dewsbury Hospital. In her heyday, she was the club's best lady bowls player as was their daughter, Susanne. She is now married and lives in the Birmingham area where she is a county player. Marjorie was married to another Sandal bowling veteran Norman, who also marked his 90th birthday in 2014. Club members compete annually for the Norman Thresh Cup, which he first awarded in 1984. Marjorie was a member of the bowling club for 46 years and was its ladies champion for many years. In 1984 she also reached the national final of the Townswomen’s Guild doubles competition with Gladys Barber. She was a qualified crown green referee and officiated many times for Yorkshire Ladies in the county championships. She married Norman at St Helen’s Church, Sandal, in 1951. As well as Norman and Susanne, she also leaves behind her son Martyn, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
