Died Wednesday, 1 July 2015, aged 86: The funeral of speedway and motor racing fan John Chudley, of Mountbatten Avenue, Sandal, took place at Wakefield Crematorium. John, a widower who died suddenly at his home, was an engineer with Lyons Bakery, with whom he spent all his working life of 44 years. He was a senior member of the engineering team at the company’s Carlton factory near Barnsley when he retired. He had been a member of Sandal Community Association since its formation.He was born in Hammersmith but the family later moved to Greenford where he met his future wife, Jeanne, when he was a member of the Boys’ Brigade. He did National Service in the army in Germany and then he and Jeanne married in 1952. After a couple of house moves in the London area, they came to Wakefield in 1974.He was a keen birdwatcher and he and Jeanne, who died in July 2012, both loved Scotland, where they spent many holidays. They had two daughters, Jackie and Carolyn, who still live in the Wakefield area with their families.
