PETYT: George Kenneth

Died 1 January 2007, aged 74: A requiem mass was held on 10 January 2007, at St Austin's Church, Wentworth Street, for George Kenneth Petyt, 74, assistant scout leader of the 34th/35th Wakefield (Kettlethorpe) Scout Group for 30 years until his retirement in 1997. He died in Pinderfields Hospital on New Year’s Day after suffering a stroke.  In 1996, he received a 25-year long service award, presented to him at the St George's Day Parade service in Wakefield Cathedral. And the Kettlethorpe group had already made sure his name would live on when in 1987 they formed a new unit, the Petyt Beaver Colony. Mr Petyt's brother Frank, of The Spinney, Sandal, said: "George dedicated himself to scouting and in his younger days he was also an enthusiastic cyclist and walker and, as a member of the Youth Hostel Association, he visited most parts of the country and destinations overseas."
